Our supper table.

We saw hundreds of zebras.

Kings (or in this case the Queens) of the Delta. We saw lions on three occasions. Twice we sent for the Land Cruiser so we could get close. The second time was in the late afternoon. We got in the Land Cruiser and followed the lions while they stalked a heard of zebras and wildebeasts. We sat barely 15 feet away from them as they waited for the sun to go down. As it got dark the two lionesses split up and slowly made their way towards the herds. We stayed back and watched. Over an hour later when it was dark they made their move and took down a young zebra. We sped toward them in the Cruiser and arrived moments after the capture. We spent the next two hours watching them devour the zebra as another lioness joined them. (see next photo).

Here the three lionesses eat their kill. But the story does not end here. We illuminated the show with the Cruiser's headlights. Later when we went to leave the engine would not start. We had drained the battery. Uh oh! There were five of us plus Godfrey and his assistant. Three lions, various jackals and hyenas waiting for the lion's scraps and who knows what else lurking near by. Oh, and one rifle with 5 bullets and a kilometer run to the camp. We radioed for help and finally about 30 minutes later someone back at camp heard our call and sent another Cruiser to jump start us. We all had a good laugh and returned to camp and had dinner.
